Human Skin Model for Anti-Fungal/Dandruff Test Service

The cosmetic industry has a long history and technological advancements have made them available to the masses. 3D human skin models have become the latest tool for non-animal testing in the skincare and cosmetic market. The human skin model from Creative Biolabs is a laboratory-grown skin test platform to discover the potential effects of skincare products, cosmetics, health products, etc. on human skin. Our comprehensive capabilities allow for a full range of testing.

Introduction and Difference between Dandruff and Fungal Infection

Dandruff is a common scalp condition characterized by scaling of the skin on the scalp. Malassezia, also known as Pityrosporum, is the sole genus in the family Malasseziaceae. Pityrosporum ovale is lipid-dependent and can only be found in humans, while Pityrosporum pachydermatis is lipophilic but not lipid-dependent found on the skin of most animals. The most well-known is that Malassezia is the culprit of dandruff. This fungus lives on the scalp of most adults and feeds on the oils on the scalp, which it then breaks down and leaves behind oleic acid. The problem is that many people are sensitive to oleic acid. In this case, our Malassezia-colonized skin model can be used to verify the anti-dandruff effect of shampoo products.

A fungal infection, also known as mycosis, is a skin disease caused by a fungus. It always leads to skin problems like rashes, bumps, itching, blisters, and redness. Fungal skin infections can occur anywhere on the body, including the scalp. Please note that dandruff is not a fungal infection. The actual fungal infection of the scalp, commonly known as tinea capitis or tinea capitis, is caused by fungi of the genus Microsporum and Trichophyton. There are generally two types of parasitic hair infection by dermatophytes, which include endothrix and endo-ectothrix. Microsporum canis causes gray patch tinea capitis.
