Plant Cell Culture Service

The cosmetic industry has a long history and technological advancements have made them available to the masses. The current trend is to return to using more natural and sustainable ingredients. Creative Biolabs is an internationally operating laboratory to provide a series of services for cosmetic products. Our comprehensive capabilities allow the use of plant stem cells in cosmetic products development.

Plant Cell Culture in Cosmetic Products

The production of cosmetic products derived from plant cell and tissue cultures has a long tradition. In the cosmetic industry, plant cell culture extracts with multiple specific activities have been widely used for the development of cosmetic products. In recent years, there are more than 50 cosmetic products based on plant cell culture extracts have been developed.

Plant cell suspension culture is the main way to obtain plant stem cell extracts. Using plant cell cultures instead of whole plants reduces energy consumption, reduces environmental impact, and is independent of location and season. As supplementary ingredients in cosmetic products, these extracts can reduce hair loss and skin aging, thereby improving skin quality and strengthening the body's immune defense system.

Applied Plant Cell Culture types

  • Plant tissue cultures
  • Cell suspension cultures

Production of Plant Cell Culture Extract

  • Selection of optimal culture parameters. The type of plant cell culture, especially its morphology, growth, and production behavior, influences the definition of its optimal culture parameters.
  • The most suitable bioreactor type. The bioreactor types frequently used for commercial productions include bubble column bioreactors, stirred bioreactors, airlift bioreactors, as well as wave-mixed bioreactors.
  • Plant cell culture extract manufacture. According to the chemical properties and multiple physical properties of the biologically active substances contained in the extract, a specific extraction process can be determined. In general, the first step is always to harvest the medium containing the intracellular target compound, and subsequent manipulations may include harvesting of the cell mass, homogenization and disruption, extraction with solvents or proteolytic enzymes, and/or chromatography, and washing.
