Physical and Chemical Integrity Test Service

Creative Biolabs is an internationally operating testing laboratory that provides a series of stability analysis services for cosmetic products. Our comprehensive testing capabilities meet the international regulatory requirements for cosmetic products. Now we provide the novel physical and chemical integrity testing service.

The Introduction of Cosmetic Stability

Stability testing always provides critical data about the safety and shelf life of cosmetic products. In fact, stability testing is an experiment to simulate the possible changes of the product under different environmental conditions. The main objective of cosmetic stability testing is to ensure that cosmetic products can maintain their expected physical, chemical, and microbiological quality, functionality, and aesthetics when stored under appropriate conditions. Physical and chemical integrity testing refers to the evaluation of color, odor, pH value, viscosity, texture, flow, and emulsion stability, as well as signs of separation.

  • Temperature Variations Testing
  • High-temperature testing is now commonly used as a predictor of long-term stability. If the cosmetic product is stable for three months at 45°C, it means that it can be stable for two years at room temperature. In addition, the cosmetic product must also be stable for three months at -10°C.

  • Cycle Testing
  • Place the cosmetic product at -10°C for 24 hours, and then place it at room temperature (25°C) for 24 hours to complete a cycle. Completing the three cycles means that the cosmetic product has good stability. A more stringent test is a five-cycle test from -10°C to 45°C.

  • Centrifuge Testing
  • Creaming is one of the first signs that the emulsion is about to become unstable. Centrifugation is a good test method to predict creaming. Heat the emulsion to 50°C and centrifuge at 3000 rpm for 30 minutes to check the resulting product for signs of emulsion. This test is necessary for liquid/cream cosmetics.

  • Light Exposure Testing
  • Both the formulation and packaging of cosmetic products may be sensitive to ultraviolet radiation. Place the product under the light to observe whether the product or packaging is discolored.

  • Mechanical Shock Testing
  • Since cosmetic products will be damaged by unavoidable mechanical shocks during transportation, mechanical shock testing can help determine whether powder or granular product delamination may occur.

  • Monitoring
  • For all of the above tests, it is necessary to monitor color, odor/scent, viscosity, pH, as well as particle size uniformity and/or particle agglomeration (if any) under a microscope.
