Total Gram-Positive Test

Creative Biolabs is a leading service provider that focuses on cosmetic microbiological tests. Now we are proud to provide the total gram-positive test for our clients all over the world.

The Necessity of Total Gram-Positive Test

Cosmetic microbiological testing is a significant aspect of cosmetic product safety. Contamination of cosmetics with microorganisms is a common problem and the microorganisms in cosmetics may cause serious health risks. Therefore, regular microbiological testing of cosmetics is necessary.

Creative Biolabs provides a novel enrichment method for specific pathogen screening. To ensure that there are no harmful bacteria (even if the number is small), the test will enrich the bacteria by culturing the samples in an enrichment broth for 7 days.

The Testing Gram-Positive Organisms

  • Staphylococcus
  • Staphylococcus is a common gram-positive bacteria that belongs to the family Staphylococcaceae. Staphylococcus species are facultative anaerobic organisms that reside normally on the skin and mucous membranes of humans. Based on an analysis of orthologous gene content, Staphylococcus species can be divided into groups A, B, and C. Due to the horizontal transfer of genes encoding antibiotic/metal resistance and virulence, antibiotic resistance of various staphylococci species can occur widely.

  • Streptococcus
  • Streptococcus is a genus of gram-positive coccus or spherical bacteria that belongs to the family Streptococcaceae. Most streptococci are oxidase negative and catalase negative. Many streptococcal species are not pathogenic, but certain streptococcal species can cause pink eye, meningitis, bacterial pneumonia, endocarditis, erysipelas, and necrotizing fasciitis.

  • Enterococcus
  • Similar to streptococci in physical characteristics, Enterococcus is a gram-positive coccus that belongs to the phylum Firmicutes. Enterococcus is a facultative anaerobic bacteria that can tolerate a variety of environmental conditions. In general, clinical infections caused by Enterococcus include urinary tract infections, bacteremia, bacterial endocarditis, diverticulitis, meningitis, and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. What's more, Enterococcus presents a high level of intrinsic antibiotic resistance.

  • Bacillus
  • As a member of the phylum Firmicutes, Bacillus is a genus of gram-positive, rod-shaped bacteria that can be either obligate aerobes or facultative anaerobes. Bacillus species are ubiquitous even in extreme environments. Bacillus anthracis can cause anthrax and Bacillus cereus can cause food poisoning. As one of the most understood prokaryotes, the research of Bacillus subtilis has always been at the forefront of bacterial molecular biology and cytology

  • Clostridium
  • Clostridium is a genus of gram-positive bacteria that contains nearly 250 species that include important pathogens and common free-living bacteria. For example, Clostridium botulinum can produce botulinum toxin and cause botulism, Clostridium tetani can cause tetanus, and Clostridium perfringens can cause a variety of symptoms.

  • Listeria
  • Listeria is a genus of bacteria that acts as an intracellular parasite in mammals. Listeria species are gram-positive rod-shaped anaerobic causes listeriosis. The two main clinical manifestations of listeriosis are sepsis and meningitis. According to statistics, listeriosis can cause a fatality rate of about 20%.
