Genetic Toxicity Test

Creative Biolabs is an internationally operating testing laboratory that provides a series of toxicology test services for cosmetic products. Our comprehensive safety testing capabilities meet the international regulatory requirements for cosmetic products. Now we provide multiple methods for genetic toxicity testing.

The Introduction of Genetic Toxicity Test

Genetic alternations in somatic and germ cells seriously affect health even at low exposure levels. The mutations that occur in proto-oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, and DNA damage response genes may lead to cancer and a variety of genetic diseases. Germ cell mutations may cause spontaneous abortion, infertility, or genetic damage to offspring. What's more, the accumulation of DNA damage in somatic cells plays a role in degenerative diseases.

Genetic toxicity test is an important component of the safety assessment of cosmetic products. The results form the scientific basis for risk assessment. Following the legislation and guidance documents, if a substance is negative in vitro it is classified as non-genotoxic. A series of in vitro testing methods with enhanced performance have been developed to reduce the need for subsequent in vivo testing and unnecessary animal use.

Methods for Genetic Toxicity Test

  • Ames Test (OECD 471) - It is a classical bioassay method for assessing the mutagenic potential of compounds using bacteria.
  • Mouse Lymphoma Assay (OECD 476) - It is an in vitro mammalian cell gene mutation test for gene mutations detection caused by chemical substances. In this test, the mutations in the hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT) and xanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (XPRT) transgenes are measured.
  • Micronucleus Assay (Chinese Hamster Cell/Human Lymphocytes) (OECD 487) - It is a genotoxicity test for micronuclei detection in the cytoplasm of interphase cells. This assay allows detection of the activity of clastogenic and aneugenic test substances in cells that have undergone cell division during or after exposure to the test substance.
  • Chromosome Aberration Test (Chinese Hamster Cells/Human Lymphocytes) (OECD 473) - It is an in vitro chromosome aberration test is to identify agents that cause structural chromosome aberrations in cultured mammalian somatic cells.
